This is a Clinical Warning from NHS Trust. We have received an alert regarding the sale of the following bracelets that have been on sale at Eden Project in Cornwall and another 36 retailers across the UK; urging customers to return the red and black bracelets made from the Jequirity bean, the deadly seed of the plant abrus precatorious. It contains the toxin abrin, a controlled substance under the Terrorism Act that if swallowed can kill in doses of just 3 micrograms. Abrin is chemically similar to ricin, a chemical warfare agent. People who have bought the bracelets are being urged to bag them and then wash their hands and avoid touching their eyes. The Eden Project alone sold 2,800 bracelets over a year.

The London Pledge

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has signed “The London Pledge for Children and Young People in care”. This could be good for young people still in care but may not be enough for care leavers.

MissingLinks is a place where people brought up in foster care and children’s homes can speak and be proud of who they are. MissingLinks is about networking with people and organisations that can make a positive change for children in care and care leavers. MissingLinks is about finding the family you never knew you had. MissingLinks is about opening windows on the lives of Care Leavers of all ages so everyone can better understand the real need for a cultural change in perceptions about being brought up in care. MissingLinks wants to stop young people in care being forced into independent living at 16 years of age and are taken out of the care system at 18. We would not do this to our own children. At that age young people desperately need a stable, supportive home and a reliable adult to be their friend and guide as they move into the scary world of higher education and work. Most teenagers need an adult they can trust and to turn to. MissingLinks wants to see better provision of services for Care Leavers, such as access to files, better housing, better suport......  for life.

MISSINGLINKS
A PLACE WHERE CARE LEAVERS CAN SPEAK
MissingLinks  organised a care leavers rock concert at the Livewire Youth Music Project in Saltash, Cornwall on the 29th October last year as part of the National Care Leavers week initiative.
Jennii Booth, a care leaver, sang four numbers at the beginning of the gig followed by two local bands. Young people in care and care leavers  travelled from all over Cornwall.
Pictured below are the main organiser for the care leavers gig. David Wood from MissingLinks, Vince Reeves from Two of a Kind, Steph Martyn from

Two of a Kind, Claire Knight from Carefree and John McConnell from Action for Children.

It was a great evenings entertainment with Reese from Carefree totally in control of the stage lighting and Oliver, also from carefree, jamming to his hearts delight in a recording studio upstairs.

Our grateful thanks to Andy Rance from Livewire for helping to raise awareness for young people in care and for inviting care leavers to perform on stage.

Jennii’s video is featured on Livewire’s facebook pages.

Apology for Abuse in Care

Missinglinks is supporting the push to persuade the government to offer an apology to all those who were abused as children in care. A major part of the campaign is to sign the e-petition at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petition s/6824 The petition calls for " the British Parliament to urge the British Government to 1.Have the moral courage to apologise to all those abused under their care whilst formally being looked after by them 2.To extend the same courtesy they gave in their apology to migrant children 3.To take the same stance as Ireland, Scotland, Canada and Australia and offer a full apology. 4.To respect how significant an apology is in helping the recovery process of victims and survivors".

Please sign the e-petition and post the link in as many places as possible. Please contact info@missinglinks.me.uk if you would like to help the campaign.
